About Las Cruces


Nestled in the fertile Mesilla Valley between the majestic Organ Mountains and the meandering Rio Grande, Las Cruces, New Mexico, is a city rich in history, the arts, and scenic beauty, and offering great year-round weather. MTTI is located in historic downtown Las Cruces, a vibrant area surrounded by restaurants, shops, museums, nightlife, parks, and more. Our school location is also at the center of a thriving natural health and wellness community, allowing students to connect, learn, and grow from other natural health practitioners in the area. With 320 days of sunshine every year, there are limitless possibilities for outdoor activities and adventures in and around Las Cruces.

Las Cruces, also known as “The City of the Crosses,” is the second biggest city in New Mexico. It is home to New Mexico State University (NMSU), New Mexico’s only land grant university. The majestic Organ Mountains, ten miles to the east, are dominant in the city’s landscape, along with the Doña Ana Mountains, Robledo Mountains, and Picacho Peak. Las Cruces lies 225 miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico, 146 miles south of Socorro, New Mexico and 45 miles north of El Paso, Texas.

Spaceport America, which lies 44 miles north of Las Cruces, has seen the completion of several successful manned, suborbital flights. The city is also the headquarters for Virgin Galactic, the world’s first company to offer sub-orbital spaceflights.




Downtown Neighborhood


MTTI is located in downtown Las Cruces, central to restaurants, events, shopping, art galleries, museums and more. In recent years downtown Las Cruces has undergone a revitalization and many new businesses have recently opened or moved into the area, making downtown one of the fastest growing communities in Las Cruces. Health and Wellness Community


Las Cruces has a vibrant health and wellness community, and downtown Las Cruces is a hub of this community. Right down the street from the MTTI campus, students can peruse the herbal remedies and medicine at From The Ground Up herb store. Across the street from the school is the Full Circle Health Center, where a variety of natural health practitioners, including Licensed Massage Therapists, offer services.





There are many great rental housing options in Las Cruces. The historic downtown neighborhood to the West of the MTTI school building has some of the first houses built in Las Cruces when the railroad first came. Many of these old Victorian and adobe style homes have been converted into rental units. There are also a variety of newer loft-style condo options cropping up in this area. The old Mesquite downtown neighborhood, to the East of MTTI, is in the process of revitalization and has many historic adobe style properties full of character. Affordable housing options can be found near the New Mexico State University campus, as well as many other parts of town.  Many of our students have luck finding rental housing or roommates on



Entertainment and Nightlife


There are a variety of bars, dance clubs, breweries, restaurants, wineries, museums, movie theaters, art galleries and entertainment venues in Las Cruces, many of which are within walking or short driving distance from MTTI’s location downtown.

High Desert Brewery features locally made beers and tasty New Mexican food, local music, and is a popular hangout spot.

COAS Bookstore is several blocks away and features an incredible used book collection. This used bookstore is more than just a place to buy books; it’s a cultural epicenter for the town and a popular hang-out for college kids, families, retirees and anyone else who genuinely loves books.

The Fountain Theater is located in an historic building in Mesilla, NM, and features independent films.





Las Cruces boasts 350 days of sunshine each year, and is within a 1-2 hour drive from White Sands National Monument, Aguirre Springs, the Gila Wilderness near Silver City NM, The City of Rocks outside Deming NM, and hot springs in Truth or Consequences NM – not to mention the various hiking, climbing, and outdoor activities available in our very own Organ Mountains.
